Majolica that has a rectangular shape with a rounded arched top.
Designed to be hung, thanks to the small ring on the top edge. The outer edge and irregular thickness clearly demonstrate that, beyond the decoration, the shape itself is entirely handcrafted.
In the center we see Mary and Joseph lovingly bending over the baby Jesus, lying in a manger or on golden straw.
The figures wear traditionally colored robes, with Mary in a blue and pink cloak and Joseph in a blue and ochre robe. Joseph has a yellow/gold halo surrounding him.
Background: The background, visible through a sort of "window" or arched opening:
It is a deep midnight blue, studded with stars.
At the top stands out a large, bright yellow, five-pointed comet.
The outline of a city (probably Bethlehem) can be seen with stylised buildings in shades of yellow-ochre and brown.
Style and Colors: The painting is characterized by a naive or folkloristic style, with sharp outlines and bright colors. The dominant hues are cobalt blue, white, yellow ochre, pink, and brown.
It is a beautiful decorative object with a strong reference to Christmas tradition.
